CORVALLIS, Ore. - Second-half struggles for the Utah women's basketball team led to a 54-46 loss at Oregon State on Friday evening.
Oregon State opened the second half with a 17-4 run, taking a four-point lead, 37-33 with 12 minutes left in the game, erasing a nine-point halftime lead for Utah.
The Utes fought to keep the game close down the stretch. After cutting the Beavers lead to two points, 47-45 with four minutes left, OSU scored six-straight to push the lead back up to eight in the final minute.
OSU shot 62 percent in the second half, compared to 27 percent second-half shooting for Utah.
In the first half, each team had a series of runs that saw the Utah lead expand from three points to 12 points and back to three points again. The Utes led 29-20 at halftime. Utah shot 48 percent in the first half and held Oregon State to 33 percent shooting. Plouffe had 17 points and eight boards in the first half.
