SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team travels to UC Davis for a four-game series beginning on Friday, Feb. 22, at 2:00 p.m. PT.
The Utes went 1-2 during their opening weekend against Loyola Marymount. Utah won game one, 6-3, before falling 1-0 in game two and 11-2 in game three.
"When you really look at the weekend, we played really well for 25 of 27 innings," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "Two big innings on Sunday hurt us, and we couldn't overcome that. We need to work on stopping rallies and making a big play. Defensively, other than those two innings, we played really good baseball, and we pitched extremely well for all but those two innings. Those were the good things.
"Our bats are behind right now, and we need to get more production all the way through the lineup. At one point, we had six freshman out there in Sunday's game. They are learning, but they held their own for the first weekend."
The Utes will pitch their same rotation for the second-straight week, with senior Brock Duke on the mound for game one, followed by Tanner Banks in game two and Joe Pond in game three. Utah's Monday starter is to be determined.
UC Davis started its season 3-1, winning three out of four against Washington. The Aggies play San Jose State on Wednesday before taking on the Utes.
