"I was quite pleased with a lot of the things we did," Utah head coach Beth Launiere said. "We have been working on our offense and we had some good offensive numbers. The things we worked on showed up this afternoon, which is always a good thing. It was a perfect match. We got a little stressed early on, which was good, but we knew once our physicality took over that we'd be okay. It was great to see our alumni and they did a nice job. It was funny because I know all of their shots and I was telling our team exactly what they were going to do. Actually, our team knows most of them so they knew how to play them, too. It was a good, fun match."
The Alumni took four of the first five points, but the Utes came back to tie the set at 10 points apiece and a kill by Bailey Bateman gave Utah its first lead at 11-10 before the Utes stretched it to a 15-10 advantage. The Alumni re-tied the match at 16-16 before a Dalton kill gave them a 17-16 edge. The match would be tied two more times (18-18) and the Alumni would roar back to take a 22-18 lead.
