No. 88 Elizabeth Ferris, a senior on the Ute squad, will move into the qualifying round of the Riviera/ITA All-American Tournament on Tuesday after three big wins in the pre-qualifying round over the weekend.

SALT LAKE CITY - Elizabeth Ferris (88) from the University of Utah women's tennis team finished the pre-qualifying round of the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships over the weekend in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The Ute posted three big wins, which places her in the qualifying round beginning on Tuesday.
Ferris, a senior and the number four seed, faced Brooke Beier, a junior from Purdue University, in the first round. The Boilermaker, whom was previously coached by Utah's head coach Mat Iandolo, was broken by Ferris at 7-6(6), 6-2.
Advancing into the second round, Ferris faced Natalia Bubian from Southern Methodist University. The Ute swept through the first set only allowing the Mustang two wins. In the second set, Bubian stepped up to challenge Ferris, however the Ute stood tall and took the set and match at 6-2, 7-5.
Playing in the final round of the pre-qualifying round, Ferris faced Samantha Mouly from University of San Diego. Ferris took the first set at 6-4, but Mouly fought back in the second to take a 6-2 win over the Ute. The culminating set was a hard fought battle, but it was Ferris that made the final decision. The Ute took the match at 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.
After completing the pre-qualifying round, Ferris will begin the qualifying round of the All-American Tournament, which begins Tuesday morning. Ferris will face Olivia Colman, a freshman from San Diego State in the first round.
