March 27, 2008

SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's tennis team earned a No. 56 national ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) this week after a tough loss to No. 34 South Carolina 4-3 on March 15.

The Utes have notched several wins over ranked opponents this season to earn national recognition. The team posted wins over No. 48 Oregon (5-2), No. 65 Cal Poly (4-3), and No. 66 Nevada (4-3) earlier this season.

Although updated singles and doubles rankings haven't been posted, Elizabeth Ferris currently holds a No. 43 ranking in singles and a No. 41 ranking in doubles play with partner Emily Kwok.

Ferris and Kwok are expected to advance in the doubles rankings posting an 8-4 win over No. 33 Gira Schofield and Ana Zubori of South Carolina last week.
