SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Utah Women's Tennis puts day two of the San Diego State University Fall Tennis Classic II in the books with a 3-4 record on the day. The Utes send one singles and one doubles team to their perspective bracket championships tomorrow.
Sarah Richter stands as the only Ute remaining in the winner's bracket as she recorded a victory against SMU's Holly Verner, 6-2, 6-2. Richer will face Anna Kate Anderson (SMU) tomorrow in the singles Blue championship.
Angela Chen (CSUN) topped Erica Valimaki in singles play, 6-2, 6-3, while Sarah Pham was downed by Kristin Buth (SDSU), 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 and Callie Craig fell to Julija Lukac (UW) in three sets, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
After suffering a loss in the first round, Luisa Gerstner Da Rosa bounced back to defeat Vivian Lin (CSUN), 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, and will play for the singles White consolation championship tomorrow against Lorraine Cheung of CSUN.
Utah doubles pair Pham and Craig claimed a win against Nguyen and Davis (SDSU) to move on to the doubles Black championship, while Gerstner da Rosa and Richter fell in the second round to Douglas Miron and Shimizu (UW), 8-2.
Action continues tomorrow with the championship and consolation championship matches.
