TEMPE, ARIZ. - The University of Utah women's tennis team ended their second day of competition at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational on Saturday. Elizabeth Ferris now stands alone as a Utah representative, and will continue to battle in the consolation bracket. Evgenia Kryunchkova suffered a loss in the main draw quarterfinals, while Leigh Walsh fell in the consolation quarterfinals on Saturday.
Ferris faced Kari Wig from Michigan in the consolation quarterfinals of the ASU Invitational on Saturday. The Ute came ready to play as she hit a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Wig. Ferris will advance into the consolation semifinals on Sunday against Lindsey Howard from Michigan.
Kryunchkova suffered a tough defeat on Saturday in the main draw quarterfinals. The Ute faced Laila Abdala from Arizona State for a 6-1, 6-4 loss as the Thunderbird defended her home court. In the consolation quarterfinals, Walsh faced Rika Tatsuno from Michigan for a 6-3, 6-2 win in Tatsuno's favor.
In doubles play, Ferris and Walsh teamed up to face Abdala and Lauren Megale from Arizona State for a tough 8-3 loss. On Sunday, the Ute duo will take on Tanvi Dudhela and Kari Wig from Michigan.
