Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Utah women's tennis team completed the first day of the Central Region Championship Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 23. Four Utes competed in the first and second rounds of the qualifying draws.
In singles competition, sophomore Ellen Svensson was the only Ute to advance defeating New Mexico State's Isabelle Mignot (6-3, 7-6) in the first. In the second round, Svensson fell to Oklahoma's Yalanti Santi (1-6, 6-3, 11-9). Freshman Joanna Zyndzo fell to Nebraska's Anna Oehmne (6-7, 6-2, 10-3). Oklahoma's Mellisa Mendieta defeated sophomore Allison Hansen (6-2, 6-0) and freshman Rachel Alder fell to Tulsa's Daniela Muscolino (6-2, 6-2).
Competition will continue on Thursday, Oct. 24 and last through Sunday, Oct. 27.
