LAS VEGAS, Nev.- The University of Utah women's tennis team saw five singles players and all three doubles teams advance through the first day of play at the ITA Mountain Region Championships, Wednesday, at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas. Day two resumes doubles play at 8 a.m. PT with singles starting at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 15.
In main draw singles sixth-seeded player* Anastasia Putilina received a bye in the round of 128 and went on to defeat Northern Arizona's Yumi Hasegawa, 7-5, 7-5, in the round of 64. The Utah sophomore faces Montana's Rebecca Bran in the round of 32 the morning.
Senior Erin Monson, who was also given a bye in the round of 128, topped UM's Maddy Soule, 2-6, 7-5, 7-5, in the round of 64. In the round of 32 the 17th-seeded Ute meets ninth-seeded Melisa Esposito of Colorado.
The third Ute granted a bye in the round of 128 was 17th-seeded Evgenia Kryuchkova. The junior defeated Air Force's Sarah Cassman, 6-2, 6-4, in the round of 64 and faces eighth-seeded Ute Schnoy of Denver in the round of 32.
Sophomore Missy Harris downed Katrina Eromin of Air Force, 6-2, 6-0, in the round of 128 and pulled off an, 7-6(1), 6-2, upset of DU's 17th-seeded Julia Bauregger in the round of 64. The newcomer will take on fifth-seeded Lauren Megale of Boise State in the round of 32.
In the round of 128 Paige Miles defeated Colorado State's Lauren Mulhern, 6-2, 6-2, and topped Rilee Moorhead of Idaho State, 6-1, 6-2, in the round of 64. In the morning the freshman Ute faces BSU's first-seeded Pichittra Thongdach in the round of 32.

In the round of 128 Lexi Provancha topped Jenny Phillips of Utah State, 6-1, 6-0, but fell in a hard-fought, three-set match to BSU's Marlena Pietzch, 6-7(1), 7-5, 6-2, in the round of 64. The Utah sophomore moves to the qualifier for consolation draw third round where she will face the winner of a second round match-up.
In doubles play the team of Kryuchkova and Harris downed USU's Britney Watts and Phillips in the round of 64, 8-1. The Utes face ninth-seeded Stephanie Jasper and Bianca Jochimsen of BSU in the round of 32.
In the round of 64 Putilina and Miles topped USU's Hailey Swenson and Jaclyn West, 8-1. In the round of 32 the Utah duo takes on UNLV's fourth-seeded team of Jana Albers and Kristina Nedeltcheva.
Eighth-seeded Monson and Maughan received a bye in the round of 64 and meet Air Force's Christine Monreal and Eromin in the round of 32.
*In the singles main draw players were seeded normally No. 1 to No. 8 with eight players seeded No. 9 and 10 seeded No. 17. Main draw doubles teams were seeded normally No. 1 to No. 8 with five teams seeded at No. 9.
