LAS VEGAS - Utah Women's Tennis has at least one more match to look forward to as the final day of the ITA Mountain Regional Championships approaches. Though several Utes recorded victories on day three, only one Utah doubles pair remains in a winning bracket.
"Overall, it's been a good tournament," said Utah head coach Mat Iandolo. "We've won quite a few matches. I would have liked to have gotten someone into the singles final, but Sarah Pham is beginning to play very well and had a great tournament. We're looking forward to tomorrow with the doubles semifinals. I think we have a good chance of bring back the title."
Nationally ranked and playing as the top seed, Utah doubles team Tereza Bekerova and Paige Miles knocked off No, 7 seed Winde Janssens and Nuria Ormeno of Colorado, 8-5. The pair advances to the semifinals tomorrow.
Competing in the singles quarterfinal, Sarah Pham, nationally ranked at No. 66, knocked out Dorettya Jonas of Wyoming, 6-3, 6-2 to move on to the semifinals.However, Pham was defeated by UNLV's Lucia Batta, ranked No. 41 nationally, 6-0, 6-3, in the following match.
Sarah Richter and Luisa Gerstner de Rosa both came out on top in their consolation singles matches. Richer grabbed a win over Northern Colorado's Caitlin (6-3, 6-3), while de Rosa topped Sanz of Idaho (6-3, 6-2).
