Junior Cassie Kasteler won two straight matches at the BYU Invitational

PROVO, Utah - The University of Utah women's tennis team kicked off its fall season at the BYU Invitational on Thursday. Three Utes advanced in singles play, while all three doubles teams were eliminated in the first round.
In singles competition, freshman Joanna Zyndzo defeated Utah State's Caroline Polluck (6-7, 7-6, 10-8) in the first round. Junior Cassie Kasteler opened with a win over Boise State's Anna Curtolo (6-3, 4-6, 10-6) and downed BYU's Tara Porter (6-3, 6-0) in the second round. Junior Sheri Esrock won two straight, beating Utah State's Richelle Ferguson (6-4, 6-2) in the first and BYU's Lindsay Ferrell (7-6, 2-6, 10-6) in the second.
In doubles competition, Kasteler/Zyndzo fell to Utah State's Larson/Hawkins (8-6), BYU's Pike/Ferrell defeated Adler/Hansen (8-1) and Esrock/Svensson fell to Colorado State's Pallares/Jones (9-8).
