Utes Complete Day Two

Junior Rachel Alder defeated Utah's States Erin Manning to advance to the second round of the singles back draws.

PROVO, Utah - The University of Utah women's tennis team concluded the second day at the BYU Invitational.

In round one of the singles back draw, Junior Allison Hansen defeated Carolyn Stephens of Utah State (3-6, 6-3, 6-2). Freshman Ashley Young downed Jill Smith of Utah State (6-3, 6-4). Freshman Jessica Watts beat Weber State's Karla Pretorius (6-2, 6-3) and junior Rachel Alder defeated Erin Manning of Utah State (6-4, 6-0). Freshman Whitney Eber fell to Weber State's Alexandre Ilie (6-3, 7-6(2)) while freshman Janessa Jackson fell to Utah State's Courtney Anderson (6-0, 6-3).

In round one of the doubles back draw, Eber/Hansen downed Hawkins/Ilie of Weber State (8-5). Young teamed up with Holley Anderson of Utah State to defeat Weber State's Drews/Ennengia (8-5). In round two, Alder/Jackson fell to Saucedo/Watts.

Competition will continue on Saturday, Sept. 27.
