Sophomore Tereza Bekerova netted Utah's best record at the Wolverine Invitational last weekend.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Five Utes wrapped up play at the University of Michigan's Wolverine Invitational last weekend. Sophomore Tereza Bekerova posted Utah's best record of the tournament, earning two out of three singles victories, as well as two doubles victories with partners junior Sarah Pham and sophomore Natasha Smith.
Friday, the Utes faced Georgia in singles play. Bekerova netted Utah's solo singles win, topping Lilly Kimbell, 6-4, 6-2. Junior Callie Craig dropped a 6-4, 6-0 decision to Maho Kowase, while Pham suffered a 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 loss to Kate Fuller. Then, junior Elena Najera-Salas fell to Lauren Herring, 6-1, 6-0. Finally, Smith was defeated by Mackenzie Craft, 6-4, 6-2.
In Friday's doubles matches, Bekerova paired with Smith for an 8-2 victory over Iowa's Katie Zordani and Caitlin Hindmarsh. Fellow Utes Craig and Najera-Salas were defeated by Iowa's Ruth Seaborne and Shelby Talcott.
Utah was swept by Florida in Saturday's singles matches. Pham dropped a 7-5, 6-4 decision to Sofie Oyen, while Bekerova fell to Alexandra Cercone, 6-3, 6-4. Craig was then defeated by Olivia Janowicz, 6-4, 6-4, while Najera-Salas was bested by Brianna Morgan, 6-1, 6-1. After falling in the first set, 6-4, Smith returned in the second set for a 2-6 victory, but was ultimately unable to take the third set and lost 6-3, to Danielle Collins.
The Utes proved more successful in doubles Saturday, netting victories in both matches. Craig and Najera-Salas secured a 9-7 win against Iowa's Katie Zordani and Annette Dohanics. Bekerova and Pham then bested Arizona State's Stephanie Vlad and Hannah James, 8-2.
In Sunday's doubles play, Craig and Najera-Salas managed a victory for the Utes, topping Michigan's Sarah Lee and Kristen Dodge, 8-6.
The Utes return to action this weekend at the ITA All-American Championships in Los Angeles, Calif., at the Riviera Tennis Club.
