No. 4 seeded Karine Bourdages, a sophomore, shut out opponent Britney Watts of Utah State 6-0, 6-0 in the Round of 16.

PROVO, Utah - The University of Utah women's tennis team ended the first day of competition at the BYU Invitational on Thursday with three singles players andvancing to the Quarterfinals and two doubles teams advancing to the Semifinals.
No. 2 seeded Elizabeth Ferris (Jr.) competed in the Round of 16 in Flight 1 singles. Ferris battled through three sets against Polina Kokoulina of Boise State University for a 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 win. Ferris will compete against Marjokein Van de Ven of Washington State Friday in the Quarterfinals at 10:30 a.m.
Playing in Flight 2 singles, was No. 4 seeded Karine Bourdages (So.) and junior Cheyenne Reveche. Bourdages started the Round of 16 against Britney Watts of Utah State. The two competed through two sets for a 6-0, 6-0 win for Bourdages. Bourdages will compete in the Quarterfinals on Friday against Alexsandra Stefanova of Washington State at 9:00 a.m.
Reveche began competition against Erin Manning from Utah State in the Round of 32. Competing through two sets to dominate the match 6-0, 6-0, Reveche advanced to the Round of 16. Reveche battled two sets with opponent Kate Ennenga from Weber State to win 6-3, 6-2. The junior will compete Friday in the Quarterfinals against No. 3 seeded Anastesia Opata from Washington State at 9:00 a.m.
Ferris and Leigh Walsh teamed up to play in Flight 1 doubles. The duo began play in the Round of 16 against Erin Monson and Lauren Monson of Utah State. The teams battled back and forth, and the Utes were able to shut it down with an 8-6 win over the Monson duo. No. 2 seeded duo Sofia Holden and Lauren Jones of BYU stepped up to face the Ute duo in the Quarterfinals. After another long set, the Utes walked away victorious over the BYU duo with an 8-6 win. Ferris and Walsh will play Polina Kokoulina and Tatiana Ganzha from Boise State Friday at 3:00 p.m.
