SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of Utah women's tennis team was swept 4-0 by BYU in the first round of the MWC Championships at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.
BYU collected wins at all three doubles spots and earned the one point lead. The Cougars picked up three more wins in the singles. At the No. 1, Sheri Esrock fell to Barbora Zahnova (6-2, 6-2) and Whitney Eber was crushed (6-0, 6-3) by Sofia Holden at the No. 2. Jenessa Jackson was downed by Hadley MacFarlance (6-1, 6-1) at the No. 6. The matches at the No. 3, 4, and 5 spots were not finished.
Utah will face the Wyoming Cowgirls in the backdraw on Friday, April 30 at 9:00 a.m.
