Las Cruces, N.M. - The University of Utah women's tennis team ended their weekend competition schedule on a high note after defeating New Mexico State 7-0 on Sunday.
The Utes swept through doubles play, winning 8-4 at every position to earn them the doubles point.
In singles play, the Ute squad pulled together to sweep the competition over the Aggies. Cheyenne Reveche hit a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Paulina Zuniga from NMSU at the No. 4 slot. Senior Cinthia Saucedo stepped into the line-up at the No. 6 slot for the Utes. The Ute faced Aleksa Costa for a 6-0, 7-5 victory, giving the Utes a 3-0 advantage.
Leigh Walsh played Anne Fagegaltier from the Aggies at the No. 3 slot. The Ute slammed a 6-2, 6-3 victory over the Aggy. No. 114 Elizabeth Ferris took on Zeljka Juricek at the No. 1 slot. The two only played through one set, which ended in a 6-1 win for Ferris. Juricek retired after the first set, giving Ferris the win.
Emily Kwok represented Utah at the No. 2 slot against Nicole Fintell. The Ute took the first set 7-6, only to be matched in the second set by Fintell who pulled out a 7-6 win as well. The tie-breaker ended in a Utah victory 7-6, 6-7, 10-7.
Finishing up for the Utes was freshman Andrea Maughan at the No. 5 slot. The Ute slammed a perfect 6-0 win in the first set, but couldn't seal the deal in the second set against Estelle Guillaumond. The Aggie took the second set 7-6 over Maughan. The Ute took control of the tie-breaker and take the win 6-0, 6-7, 10-4.
