AUSTIN, Texas - The 34th-ranked University of Utah women's tennis team (1-0) netted a 4-1 victory over No. 69 Stephen F. Austin Saturday at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center as part of the ITA Kickoff Weekend. Utah quickly clinched the doubles point and followed with three singles wins.

In doubles action, 23rd-ranked duo junior Paige Miles and sophomore Tereza Bekerova topped Malena Gordo and Valeria Terentyeva, 8-2, from the top position. Juniors Callie Craig and Sarah Pham then followed with another 8-2 win over Margot de Haan and Laura Servise at the No. 3 spot. With the doubles point in hand for Utah, junior Elena Najera-Salas and sophomore Natasha Smith's match against Julia Lorca and Kateryna Bugarenko was suspended at four apience at the No. 3 slot.

Going into singles play with a 1-0 advantage, Miles quickly posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Servise at the No. 6 position. Stephen F. Austin then saw their single point at the No. 4 spot as Najera-Salas fell to Terentyeva, 7-5, 1-0, before the match was retired.

No. 72 Bekerova then bested Lorca, 6-4, 6-4, making the score 3-1. Utah saw their final point at the No. 3 position when 123rd-ranked Craig vanquised Bugayenko, 6-1, 6-4.

The two remaining matches at the Nos. 1 and 4 positions were then suspended. At the top spot No. 103 Pham battled Gordo to a 7-5, 5-1 lead before the match was suspended. At the No. 4 spot, junior Lucia Kovarcikova defeated de Haan in the first set, 6-1, then dropped the second set 4-6 before the match was suspended.
