At The Plate
The Utes host No. 22/23 Pacific on Friday in a single game beginning at 3:00 p.m. On Saturday, Utah plays host to in-state rival Brigham Young in a league doubleheader beginning at noon.
On Deck
The Utes continue their eight-game home stand into next week. Utah kicks off the week when it hosts Utah Valley State College in a single game starting at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27. On Friday, Utah welcomes Colorado State for a conference doubleheader beginning at 1:30 p.m. The Utes close out home play with a doubleheader versus New Mexico on Saturday at noon.
The Last Time Out
Utah went 1-3 during its road swing last weekend. Utah began with a 1-0 victory over New Mexico. Devina Quintero scored the only run of the game when she connected for a solo homer in the top of the eighth. But, the Utes dropped the second game to the Lobos 7-6 in extra innings. Kate Nygaard knocked two two-run dingers in the loss. Utah would go on to be swept (13-2, 4-1) by Colorado State in Fort Collins, Colo.
Quoting Head Coach Mona Stevens
"We're hoping to turn things around for the second half of the league season. The good thing is that we have three series at home. We are trying to get back on track with our pitching and hitting. We're hoping for a sweep of BYU this weekend to show we are the best team in Utah."
Ute Notables
Utah ranks atop several offensive categories for league play only. The Utes lead the league with a .457 slugging percentage, 40 runs scored, 12 home runs, 120 total bases and seven stolen bases. On the flip side, the Ute pitching staff has a league-worst 5.15 ERA and .347 opponent batting average in league games only. Utah also ranks last with a .943 fielding percentage. Devina Quintero's 10-game hitting streak was snapped in game two against Colorado State, while Glennis Donnelly's eight-game streak ended in game
one versus New Mexico.
