South Dakota State/Oklahoma Spring Festival Notes ![]()
The University of Utah softball team will take on South Dakota State in its home opener Wednesday at Ute Softball Field. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. The Utes then travel to the Oklahoma Spring Festival this weekend.

999 and Counting: With one more win, Utah would claim its 1,000th victory in program history. The Utes' all-time record is 999-737-5 (.575).
Quick Starters: The Utes have scored in the first inning in 13 of their 15 games this season and are outscoring their opponents 26-7 in the first frame. Utah has also been the first team to score in 13 of its 15 games in 2010.
Powered-up Utes: Utah is the only MWC school to have individuals with multiple-home run games this season. Three Utes have had two-homer games in 2010, each coming at the Red Desert Classic.
Kara Foster (Derby, Kan.) accomplished the feat against San Jose State. Brooke Olson (Bluffdale, Utah) followed in the next game with two of her own against Northern Colorado and Tia Palauni (Taylorsville, Utah) hit two over the fence against Seattle.
Double the Fun: Utah turned a season-high three double plays Feb. 27 against Long Beach State.
Making Their Mark: Foster and senior Ashley Smuda (Scottsdale, Ariz.) are mentioned in seven different categories in the Utah career record books.
Aside from being the U.'s all-time leader with 56 career home runs, Foster is listed in batting average (.329, .12 shy of No. 5), runs (117, 13 shy of No. 5), doubles (31, nine shy of No. 5) and RBI (140, 14 shy of No. 3).
Smuda could enter the top five in appearances (90, 18 shy of No. 5), wins (39, 14 shy of No. 5) and strikeouts (338, 3 shy of No. 5).
Utah to Appear on TV Twice this Season: A pair of the Utah softball team's Deseret First Duel Series games against BYU will be televised live on the MountainWest Sports Network (The Mtn.) and BYU-TV.
The Utes travel to Provo, Utah, for a Friday, April 9 game at Miller Park with first pitch at 6 p.m. MT. BYU-TV will provide the live telecast and The Mtn. will replay the game on Saturday, April 10 at 3 p.m.
Utah's lone home game in the series on Saturday, May 15 at 1 p.m. MT will be televised live on The Mtn. from Ute Softball Field.
The Mtn. is carried nationally by DIRECTV (Channel 616) and numerous cable operators representing over 200 municipalities in nine states.
