The 2004 Mountain West Conference Softball Coaches' Poll was released on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004. The Utes were picked to finish fourth this year, the same spot where they finished the 2003 season.

San Diego State was selected to win the crown for the second straight season. The Aztecs have won the past two regular-season titles. Colorado State, last year's conference tournament winner, was picked second, while Brigham Young was selected third, Utah fourth, UNLV fifth and New Mexico sixth.

"I really think people are looking at what we lost, rather than what we recruited," said Head Coach Mona Stevens. "It's not always bad to not be the favorite. This season should be an exciting one as far as the conference race goes."
