LAS VEGAS - Kara Foster and Whitney Holm both had two hits and two RBI while Hannah Clements drove in three runs, but the University of Utah softball team dropped its road finale to UNLV, 12-8, Saturday at Eller Media Softball Stadium.
Utah (20-29, 2-8 MWC) was led offensively throughout the game by the trio of Foster, Holm and Clements.
Foster went 2-for-4 at the plate, drove in two runs and scored three of her own. Holm also went 2-for-4 on the day and also had two assists at third base. Clements drove in a team-high three runs for her second three-RBI performance of the season. The freshman left fielder from Poway, Calif., also drove in three runs in the second game of a doubleheader at Utah State on April 7.
Down 4-2 entering the top of the second inning, the Utes got on the scoreboard with four runs. The inning started when Foster hit a fly ball that was dropped by the Rebel right fielder then scored after Holm drove an RBI single to right field. Senior catcher Andrea Hoffman reached base after a fielder's choice then Sharee Fonoti and Tia Palauni drew walks to load the bases before Clements drove three unearned runs across the plate with a double to left-center field.
After UNLV put together a six-run second inning, Utah came back with four unanswered runs in the third and fourth innings. Foster hit a 3-2 pitch for a double to left field and was driven in when Tori Medina laced a two-out single to left field for her second RBI of the season.
The Utes evened the score at eight runs apiece with three runs in the fourth inning, as Clements hit a ground ball to second base but reached on UNLV's second error of the day and later took second base after a wild pitch. Angie Boardman followed by drawing a walk before consecutive doubles by Utah's RBI leaders. Foster knocked a two-out double to left-center field to plate Boardman and Clements then Holm doubled to right field to score Foster for Utah's seventh unearned run of the contest. Foster, a Derby, Kan., native leads Utah with 11 doubles this season and now boasts a team-high 35 RBI and has had nine multiple-RBI performances this season. Holm is second on the squad with 11 RBI.
UNLV (31-18, 7-7 MWC) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning with a pair of runs when Jaci Hull doubled to right field to score Marissa Nichols, who drew a leadoff walk to begin the frame. Hull later scored the second run of the inning after a Utah wild pitch.

Stephanie Bregante got the decision for the Rebels and improved to 11-4 this season.
The Utes conclude their regular-season with a four-game homestand next weekend, beginning with a doubleheader Thursday against Colorado State. First pitch from Ute Softball Field is set for 2 p.m.
