SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah softball team's Pac-12 Conference matchup with No. 19/15 Oregon at Ute Field on Saturday was postponed due to rain and unplayable field conditions. The game will resume tomorrow at 11 a.m. MT. The Utes trail the Ducks, 3-2, with one out in the top of the third.
When action resumes tomorrow, there will be a 1-0 count on Oregon's Alexa Peterson and senior right-hander Generra Nielson, who just entered the game, in the circle for Utah.
Statistics and records of the game will not become official until the contest is complete.
Utah (23-16, 0-10 Pac-12) scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning, starting with a single to right field by senior third baseman Whitney Holm. Freshman Marissa Mendenhall then laced a double off the right-field fence to put runners on first and third. Sophomore Naomi Amu followed by coming up with a hard-hit groundball to the Duck shortstop. The throw pulled the Oregon first baseman off the base and allowed two Ute runs to score.
Amu got the start in the circle for the Utes and went 2.1 innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits to go with three strikeouts and one walk.
The third Utah hit so far in the contest came when junior shortstop Kelsi Hoopiiaina singled up the middle of the Oregon defense to lead off the first inning for the Utes.
The Ducks (27-9, 6-5 Pac-12) got on the board first Christie Nieto and Alexa Peterson hit back-to-back solo home runs. UO then strung together three singles to plate their third run of the day.
