Santa Barbara, Calif.--Utah wrapped up the Softball by the Beach Tournament by defeating Cal State Northridge, 1-0 on Sunday morning. The win moves Utah to 6-9 overall. Up next, Utah will host the Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah, Feb. 28-March 2.
Utah hurler Jen Pursell pitched a strong game, holding the Matadors scoreless in a complete-game effort. The win gives Pursell a 4-4 record on the season.
Utah scored the lone run in the game by using old fashion base strategy. With runners on the corners, Utah used a steal attempt to throw CS Northridge off allowing Jackie Wong to score from the third.
