Rob Wagner comes to the U. after five years as an assistant at Central Arizona. As Utah's top assistant, his primary responsibilities will include recruiting, team travel, and on-field coaching. His strengths will be used with the battery and implementing different strategies, as well as coaching first base.
Wagner comes to the U. with a long history in the softball arena. From 1998-2000, Wagner was a volunteer softball coach at Central Arizona College. In 1993, Wagner was the head softball coach at Woodinville High School (Washington). He spent two years as a head coach in 18 and under ASA softball. At Central Arizona, Wagner was an assistant baseball coach from 1995-97 and an assistant softball coach from 1998-2000. Prior to his appointment at the U., Wagner was an Assistant Athletic Director and Head of Residence Life at Central Arizona.
Wagner has coached some big names such as Dan Wheeler (Pitcher, Tampa Bay Devil Rays) and Aaron Myette (Pitcher, Chicago White Sox).
Wagner graduated from the University of Washington in 1995 with bachelor's degree in English. He received his master's degree in education administration from the University of Phoenix in 2000. In his spare time, Wagner enjoys golf, softball and outdoor recreation. Wagner and his wife Nancy reside in Salt Lake City and have a two-year old son DJ.
