SALT LAKE CITY - Ute soccer player Maren Harper can add yet another award to her already impressive collection of academic honors. The senior defender was named to the Scholar Athlete All-American second team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Earlier this season, Harper was named to the Verizon Academic All-America and All-District first team.
Harper managed to uphold the highest grade point average on the NSCAA team with a 4.0 GPA in political science.
The Utah soccer team was also awarded the NSCAA Team Academic Award for their remarkable overall academic achievement. The Utes, as a team, have a 3.12 average.
This year's team experienced unprecedented success on the field, as well. The Utes advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where they fell to eventual national champion, Portland.
