SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Senior forward Lauren Hair and junior defender Lauren Porter of the University of Utah women's soccer team have been named all-Mountain West Conference selections, the league office announced Tuesday.
Hair, a native of Alpine, Utah, reaches all-MWC honors for the third time but earns her first appointment to the first team squad. She was a second-team selection her sophomore and junior years. Hair is leading the Utes in goals (5), assists (5), points (15), shots (48) and shots on goal (26). Her five goals and 15 points both tie her previous single-season best efforts. Hair has accounted for 17 career goals to go with 19 assists for a total of 53 career points, while seven of her 17 goals have been game winners. Hair is also a three-time Academic all-MWC choice.
Perennially one of the best defenders in the MWC, Porter was named a second-team choice this year, after earning first-team honors as a sophomore and a second-team nod as a true freshman. The Salt Lake City native and East High School graduate has started all 63 games of her collegiate career, often playing every minute of every contest. Porter scored once this year, netting a goal against No. 2 Stanford, to bring her career total to five goals and one assist for 11 points. She is also a two-time Academic all-MWC choice.
Hair, Porter and the No. 4-seeded Utes take on No. 5 seed UNLV in the MWC quarterfinals on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 1 p.m. MT. If Utah advances it will take on No. 1 seed New Mexico at 1 p.m. MT on Thursday, live on The Mtn.
