MWC Championship Pairings Release

SALT LAKE CITY - The No. 3-seeded University of Utah soccer team (9-9-2, 4-2-1 MWC) will face No. 6 seed TCU (9-9-0, 2-5-0) in the opening game of the 2009 Mountain West Conference Championship in Provo, Utah, at noon on Wednesday. The tournament will be hosted by BYU and all games will be played at South Field.
Utah defeated TCU in their regular-season match by a 3-1 score at Ute Field. The two teams also met in last year's MWC tournament semifinals in Las Vegas, a match that saw the Utes hand the Frogs a 2-1 overtime defeat on an own-goal in the first minute of the extra period.
If the Utes advance past the first round, they will take on No. 2 seed San Diego State (12-3-5, 5-0-2) in the semifinals at noon on Thursday. The MWC championship match will be played at noon on Saturday.
Utah has captured two previous MWC tournament championships, winning back-to-back titles in 2003 and '04. Utah has reached the finals three other times (2000, '06 and '08).
