Oct. 16, 2006
SALT LAKE CITY - Utah junior defender Melissa Crespo has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. The Utes, ranked 13th in the nation, recorded a pair of shutout wins on the road last week, defeating Air Force, 2-0, and New Mexico, 3-0.
Crespo, hailing from Milpitas, Calif., started both games for the Utes in the back row, contributing significantly to two shutout victories. She plays a major role in a Ute defense that has not allowed a goal in conference play and has shutout its last six opponents.
Crespo also had two assists in two games last week. She assisted on Adele Letro's goal in the 21st minute against Air Force to break a scoreless tie. She assisted on Amanda Feigt's goal in the 85th minute versus New Mexico, capping off a three-goal afternoon.
Utah plays two of its final three regular season games at home, beginning with a match-up against TCU on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Ute Field. The Utes then head to San Diego State next Sunday before hosting Wyoming on Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m.
