PROVO, Utah - Utah made the most of its first-ever NCAA Tournament game, defeating its arch-rival Brigham Young for the first time in 13 tries with a 3-2 overtime win on Thursday night. The game was played in front of a boisterous bipartisan crowd of over 1,500 at BYU's South Field.

The Cougars (16-6-0) made an unbelievable game-tying goal with 11 seconds remaining in regulation. The play evolved after a desperation shot was sent towards Lynnsey Asay-Kimball. The Ute keeper made the save initially, but the ball bobbled out of her hands as BYU's Jeni Viernes rushed in to send it to overtime tied 2-2.

Utah (13-3-3) set up the game-winning goal off a free kick. Megan Maxwell took a pass from Maren Harper 25 yards in front of the net and punched it past Mandy Gott through the heart of the net.

Brigham Young had 13 shots and goal to Utah's 10. The Cougars turned-up the heat on Asay-Kimball, who made seven saves overall, with 11 shots on goal in the second half.

Utah made its presence known early as junior forward Missy Dennis scored on a lofty kick over Gott to put the Utes up early in the first half. Dennis' pressure-relieving goal was scored at the 35:10 mark off an assist by Harper. The assist by the senior defender marked her second of the game.

An unlucky turn of events occurred later in the first half 43:20 in as the Cougars put one past Asay-Kimball. The game-tying goal was scored by Aleisha Cramer-Rose.

An early second half collision rendered the Utes' spirits as Gurr-Bingham was helped off the field due to a left knee sprain. Her status for the second round game is to be determined.

A lively Ute crowd erupted at 71:58 mark as senior forward Katie Tate connected on a 10-yard blast to put Utah up 2-1.
