SALT LAKE CITY - Utah let a two-goal lead evaporate within 12 seconds only to bounce back for a wild 3-2 win over New Mexico on Saturday night at Ute Field. Amanda Feigt scored a pair of goals for the Utes, including the game-winner in the 78th minute.
The Utes remained undefeated in Mountain West Conference play at 2-0 and improved to 9-5 overall. The Lobos, who upset nationally ranked BYU on Thursday night, fell to 1-1 in conference action and 4-4-3 on the season.
Adele Letro opened the scoring in the 37th minute. Chelsea Card took a pass from Whitney Dorsey hit Letro as she slipped behind the primary Lobo defense. Letro made a quick move, got within five yards and slotted the ball into the lower left side of the net for her sixth goal of the season.
Feigt scored her first goal of the night in the 50th minute. Letro sent a long pass to Feigt, who shot from 15 yards away and forced Lobo keeper Kristen Winters make a play on the ball. Winters couldn't hang on to the ball, however. Feigt then pounced on the rebound in front of the net for an easy score.
Just when it appeared Utah would cruise to the win, the momentum switched to New Mexico. Anna Neu connected with Bridgette Sanchez, who sent a five shot past outstretched Ute keeper Ashley Mason at the 62:20 mark.
Before the Utes could regroup, the Lobos tied the game 12 seconds later. Kristine Sweat snatched the ball from Amanda Sanchez in the midfield, dribbled to just outside the box and fired a 25-yard blast over Mason.
The Lobos had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks but were outshot 9-7. Mason made three saves for the Utes.
Utah wraps up its home schedule with a pair of games at Ute Field next weekend. The Utes host Wyoming on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Air Force on Saturday at 1 p.m.
