SALT LAKE CITY - Another nationally ranked team fell victim at Ute Field Sunday. In a match-up of Soccer America Top 25 teams, No. 24 Utah defeated No. 2 Florida 1-0 in front of a crowd of 1,004 on spectacular fall afternoon.

Utah, which has won six straight, is off to its best start in the nine-year history of the program at 8-1. Florida suffered its first loss of the season, falling to 8-1.

Amber Brower scored the only goal of the game 21:52 in after taking a pass from Missy Dennis. Brower, who beat Gator keeper Brittni Goodwin to the ball, took the shot from 10 yards out on the right side of the box and placed it in the lower left hand corner of the net.

In an aggressively-played game, Florida outshot Utah 13-9. Both teams fired seven shots on goal. Ute freshman goalkeeper Ashley Mason, who has played a part in three of Utah's four shutouts this season, recorded her first complete shutout with seven saves in 90 minutes. The Gators had 15 fouls to the Utes' 10 and had a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Utes improved to 4-0 at home against teams ranked in the NSCAA/adidas Top 25 under second-year head coach Rich Manning. Florida, ranked fifth by the NCSAA this week, is the third Top 25 team Utah has faced this season. The Utes defeated No. 17 Michigan (4-1) in Salt Lake City on Aug. 31 and lost at No. 6 Texas A&M (1-0) on Sept. 5.

Utah heads to California for a two-game swing next weekend, starting off against Saint Mary's College on Friday at 3:00 p.m. (PDT).
