SALT LAKE CITY - Utah scored two goals late in the first half and kept the pressure on the entire game, firing 28 shots, in a 3-0 win over Weber State on Thursday afternoon at Ute Field.
Utah (4-1-0) outshot the Wildcats 28-10 and had 15 shots on goal. The Utes also had a 12-2 edge over Weber State (0-3-2) in corner kicks.
Ute keepers Ashley Mason and Kaycie Zimmerman combined for Utah's first shutout of the season. Mason made three saves in the first 45 minutes while Zimmerman finished the job, making four stops in the second half.
After getting several opportunities, Utah finally put a shot through the pipes in the 35th minute as Tracy Stratton took a pass from Missy Dennis and hit a shot from five yards out on the left side. A little over eight minutes later (42:11), Erin Pruitt fired a shot into the lower-left corner from close range. Julie Herdic was credited with the assist.
Weber State goalkeeper Kandice Golar made 12 saves to keep the game from getting out of hand. Fershman Melissa Wayman put through the final goal at 87:11, sticking a 10-yard shot in the upper left corner.
Utah takes on another instate rival, playing at Utah State next Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
