BOISE, Idaho - Utah scored twice in the first 18 minutes and got its second straight shutout performance from goalkeeper Ashley Mason to cruise to a 3-0 win on Sunday afternoon against Boise State.
Utah, which also won in overtime at San Francisco on Friday night, swept its season-opening road trip. With a 2-0-0 record, the Utes appear to be worthy of their No. 26 ranking in the Soccer Buzz Top 30 preseason poll.
The Utes caught a break win an own goal by Boise State in the 16th minute. Amanda Feigt crossed the ball, which caromed off of a Bronco player and into the net.
Utah's second score came two minutes later on a penalty kick. Adele Letro and Hailey Marsh had a one-two combination set up for Utes at the top of the box. A Bronco defender took down Letro, setting up Whitney Dorsey's penalty kick.
Senior forward Kim Lloyd scored in the final goal in the 89th minute. After taking a pass from Letro, Lloyd crossed the ball from the right wing and into the net. It was Lloyd's first goal since coming back from a season-ending knee injury last October.
Mason was spectacular in goal once again, making two saves to improve her record to 2-0. She made seven stops in Friday's win at San Francisco.
The Utes outshot the Broncos 15-5. Lloyd led the Utes with Four shots, while freshman Jen Christoffers had three. Boise State (0-1-0) had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks and had 10 fouls to Utah's nine.
The Utes open their home schedule with a pair of games next weekend. Utah hosts UVSC on Saturday and Idaho on Sunday. Both games will kick-off at 1:00 p.m. at Ute Field.
