Up this week: The Utes travel to College Station, Texas, to compete in the GTE Aggie Soccer Classic hosted by Texas A&M. The Utah-Texas A&M game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Fri., Sept. 19. Sunday's game with Baylor is at 12:30 p.m.
Recent Results: The Utes went two for two at home, defeating Arizona State 1-0 in overtime and trampling Wyoming 7-0. Against Arizona State, the Utes out shot the Sun Devils 27-8. Junior co-captain Jessica Narajowski recorded a backsave during sudden death overtime and assisted in Staci Burt's winning goal. Against Wyoming, Utah recorded 33 shots to Wyoming's seven. Tara McNeil, Staci Burt, Dominique Barcellona, Lorrie Tipton, Melanie Hewitt, Yolanda Yrizarris, and Amanda Schmutz all scored for the Utes. Bernie Hogan, Jamie Young, Sara Moss, Jessica Narajowski, Jaime Zemla and Lorrie Tipton tallied assists.
Utes to watch: Sophomore scoring leader Staci Burt was named WAC Pacific Division Player of the Week. Burt, a native from Salt Lake City (Cottonwood HS), scored two goals on 12 shots in the Utes' 1-0 overtime victory against Arizona State and 7-0 win over Wyoming. In the ASU win, Burt put in the game's only goal at the 91:24 mark to give Utah the overtime victory. Against Wyoming, she was responsible for the second goal of the game. Burt leads Utah with four goals and eight points on the season.
Opponent Information: This outing marks the Utes first match-up with Texas A&M and Baylor. Texas A&M holds a 5-0 season record and Baylor is 4-1-0. Texas A&M placed second in the Big 12 Conference with a 19-4-1 (10-1) record and excelled to the NCAA First Round, placing 11th. Last season, Baylor went 17-3-1 (6-2-1), placing third in the Big 12 . Baylor returns scoring leader Molly Cameron, who finished third in the NCAA in individual scoring, with a total of 75 points (32 goals and 11 assists).
