NEBRASKA UTAHVAULT VAULT Maria Scaffidi 9.675 Jessica Duke 9.675 Desire' Sniatynski 9.750 Jamie Deetscreek 9.650 Michele Zabawa 9.850 Sarah Shire 9.750 Stephanie Carter 9.750 Nina Kim 9.750 Kylie Stone 9.825 Kristina Baskett 9.900 Emily Parsons 9.925 Ashley Postell 9.875 VT: 49.100; Running: 49.100 VT:48.950; Running: 98.225 Utah vault notes: The vault judging (for both teams) seems to be really tight. Jessica Duke had a nice step and I thought she held her landing long emough to count, before she took a late step. Jamie Deetscreek got over the vault fine but had a hop on her landing. She didn't have as much flight as Jessie, but it was good. I do not understand Sarah's vault score. That was a beautiful vault. She showed a ton of power, had great form and landed perfectly. One judge gave her a 9.70. I can't explain. Nina Kim hit her vault, but it was not as good as Sarah Shire's because she didn't get as high off of the horse. Kristina Baskett caught major air and had perfect form. She couldn't quite hold her dismount long enough, taking a lean back. I think that was probably the entire deduction. Ashley Postell had one of her better vaults. She dipped a little on her landing, but it was a controlled dip. That vault set was better than the scores indicated. Reminder that scores may be slow going up at times because the flow between events is pretty jagged, probably due to the fact that the men are also rotating.
BARS BARS Emily Parsons 9.775 Stephanie Neff 9.750 Stephanie Carter 9.775 Daria Bijak 9.800 Brittany Williams 9.800 Nina Kim 9.800 Kylie Stone 9.800 Jessica Duke 9.875 Michele Zabawa 9.850 Ashley Postell 9.875 Desire' Sniatynski 9.875 Kristina Baskett 9.925 UB: 49.100; Running: 98.200 UB: 49.275; Running: 49.275 Utah bar notes: That was a really nice bar set. Probably one of our best this year. I'm going to kind of summarize because it was crazy trying to get scores until trusty Salt Lake Tribune reporter Lya Wodraska stepped up to the plate and started helping me. Stephanie Neff's routine was solid. I'd say she was mostly dinged for a handstand on the top bar that wasn't quite straight. Daria Bijak had her usual steady routine. Nina Kim moved really well between the bars. She did have a step back on her landing. Jessica Duke had one of her best routines this year in my opinion. She hit her dismount as well. Ashley Postell's routine was awesome. I believe it is the first time this year that she has completely nailed her dismount. Kristina Baskett showed absolutely no sign that she hasn't trained for a week, due to the flu and a foot injury. I wish she could do all four events after seeing that routine. She absolutely soared on all of her release moves and stuck her landing cold. She looked like she had plenty of juice, especially since she looked so drained all week.
BEAM BEAM Kathryn Howard 9.825 Jessica Duke 9.650 Maria Scaffidi 9.625 Jamie Deetscreek 9.750 Desire' Sniatynski 9.800 Daria Bijak 9.800 Kylie Stone 9.200 Sarah Shire 9.825 Tricia Woo 9.925 Nina Kim 9.825 Emily Parsons 9.950 Ashley Postell 9.250 BB: 49.125; Running: 147.325 BB: 48.850; Running: 196.675 Utah beam notes: Jessica Duke had a round-house balance check on her first series, but she stayed on, which is obviously a positive. She looked pretty steady the rest of the way. Jamie Deetscreek looked pretty confident up there. She had a medium balance check on her series (not as big as Jessie's) and I think one judge counted her harder than the other on her landing, which had kind of a wird little shuffle that came after she had stuck it. OK, I think Daria Bijak was headed for a 10.0 until she jumped on her landing. What a phenomenal routine. Sarah Shire really put on a show for her fans tonight. She has such a great center of gravity. She did everything cleanly and confidently. I thought she would get probably a 9.875 or 9.90, but maybe I missed something. Nina Kim was gorgeous. That was her best beam routine this year. I think she had a small hop on her landing, which was too bad, because she was gorgeous on the beam. Ashley had trouble several times before finally going off near the end. I thought she was hurt, but she's not ... just really angry.
FLOOR FLOOR Maria Scaffidi 9.825 Katie Kivisto 9.750 Desire' Sniatynski 9.800 Beth Rizzo 9.700 Stephanie Carter 9.850 Sarah Shire 9.800 Tricia Woo 9.825 Stephanie Neff 9.800 Kylie Stone 9.925 Daria Bijak 9.775 Emily Parsons 9.925 Ashley Postell 9.900 FX: 196.100; Running: 49.350 FX: 49.025; Running: 147.250 Utah floor notes: Katie Kivisto had a nice routine. She clearly is feeling stronger finally. I think her leaps were the best I've seen this year. One judge gave her a 9.80. Beth really cranked until the last tumbling pass, when she stumbled forward on her double back. I have to mention that she was tagged a lot hard for a stumble than Nebraska's second beamer was, who all but fell on her dismount. Outstanidng debut on floor by Sarah Shire. Her big fan club in the stands really had something to cheer about. She has a lot of good tumbling, starts, ends and has big stuff in the middle. Stephanie Neff has a great bag of tricks going on floor. Her tumbling, leaps and dance all looked good. Daria Bijak's deduction came on her first pass, double front, punch front, which she stumbled out of and also cowboyed. I have to tell you that Daria's routine is totally cool and I think it is amazing. I know some people don't like a lot of front tumbling, but hers is all really neat, unusual stuff. Lya (whom we know is impartial to every team but Georgia) and I both agree that there were no deductions visible to the naked eye in Ashley Postell's routine. It was really a beauty. I will tell any skeptics that Emily Parsons of Nebraska deserved her 9.95 on beam. I think Ashley should have gotten that on floor is all I'm saying.
