Utah's freshmen joined Kim, Cameron, Annie and her family in Las Vegas over Thanksgiving.

SALT LAKE CITY -
Annie Medcalf, a member of Utah's gymnastics team from 2001-02, had a promising career cut short when a tumor was discovered in her vertebra. She underwent surgery last spring that required the fusing of five vertebrae, along with the removal of the tumor. Medcalf, a former U.S. National Team member from Stow, Ohio, has remained with the Utah team as an undergraduate student-assistant coach while she completes her academic degree. She is also writing a weekly diary.
Last Wednesday, after spinning and weightlifting, the girls were free to go have some fun over the holiday. About half of the team got to play in Las Vegas for the long weekend. Kim, Kristen, Nat, Dom, and Cameron all loaded up the 4Runner and drove down to the city of "Lost Wages" to see the sights. They were also able to meet up with my family and me for a home cooked Thanksgiving dinner. My brother goes to school there, so my family always meets there for Thanksgiving.
Kylee flew to New York City to visit a friend and she had a blast. It was her first time in the "Big Apple" and she loved it.
Kulio and AB both were able to go home for the holiday. Kuli arrived at the airport in Colorado Springs and was greeted by her entire family as well as a surprise visit from her sister who lives in Germany. Needless to say, she was extremely happy and had an incredible weekend. While AB was at home she had time to see her family and tons of old friends.
Crystal flew to Denver to spend Thanksgiving with some friends of her family's and had a really good time.
Gritty didn't get to do much relaxing over the break either; her professors loaded her up with tons of homework right before the holiday. Mel stayed in Salt Lake, but she did take a trip to Magna to have Thanksgiving dinner with her boyfriend and his family. Veronique spent most of her break in front of the computer writing two huge papers, but she was able to get away for a while and have a little turkey with her boyfriend's family in Park City. All in all, everyone had a pretty good holiday weekend.
Now the team is back in the gym, rested and ready to go. One week of regular training, then one week of finals and we're all off for home. I can't believe fall semester is almost over.
"Desire creates power," and this year the UTES are going to be a powerhouse!!! Don't forget we have a practice meet this Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Dumke Gymnastics Center. Hope to see you there!
