SALT LAKE CITY -
Each week, a Ute gymnast will contribute an excerpt for the Utah Gymnastics Diary. This week's edition of the Utah Gymnastics Diary is provided by sophomore Gritt Hofmann.

Today, it's my turn to write about the weekly events in and outside the gym. It´s still a routine development week and everyone is looking great, even ahead of the schedule. Last week was a really short week for us. Tom didn't even have to come in for treatments on Sunday, because he did such a good job, that everyone felt fine.

It started on Monday, when we impressed Greg with our achievements (especially after the weekend). Although he didn´t want to, he had to reward us, which means, no circuit training. Then we came in Tuesday, and a lot of people didn´t feel very good (a cold was going around), so he canceled practice for Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. Thanks Greg!

Oh, on Tuesday, we had another surprise! We got a new team member! Megan recruited her; you can tell if you look at the amount of shopping bags she was carrying. Anyway, you should check out our new team picture in our photo gallery, on the website which is frequently updated by Aki. Great job Aki! One of these days, you should have the website in German as well, that would be totally awesome! By the way, Dom was sick that day, so don't think we traded her for our new team member. No worries.

Most of us used the two days off to get some homework and studying done, or just had time to rest and got ready for Thursday´s practice, which went well again. Up to the point when we noticed that our new team member had left us. She must not have liked the weather change. The same day, Veronique had a little crash with her head and the bar, but luckily she is fine and she didn't bleed all over the mats. And everyone knows how much Greg likes his clean mats. Of course we like them too and we really appreciate the hard work of Craig, who cleans our gym ever day. Thank you very much! I also want to thank our team manager, Cameron. He works really hard for us and has become a good friend to every member of the team. He is a busy man with three (!) jobs. Someone must be getting rich...

TGI Friday, and again, practice went well. Everybody is improving day by day, and we can't wait to start the season and get fired up in front of all our fans. But before our first meet, we know that "the only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary". So, if you want to see us work, you should come in and watch practice (M, T & TH, F from 1:30-5:50pm) and maybe talk to us after practice.

Saturday before spinning and weights, we started the day with a birthday-surprise-party for Greg at his house. We brought balloons, made signs and a German Chocolate Cake (which must have been really good). Of course Megan knew all about it, but Greg was really surprised. HAPPY BIRTHDAY GREG (It´s ok, we won't say how old you are)!!!

Finally, I just wanted to mention, that the German National Team was here in Salt Lake City in August getting ready for the World Championships in Anaheim. It was great to see my old teammates. I missed them a lot. And they brought a little Germany to me, which I needed, because I didn't go home over the summer. Now it has been one year since I was home. My advice for everybody out there: You should come and visit Germany!!! It's a wonderful place to travel to and I promise you will enjoy it.

All right, I guess I said enough and unfortunately, you have to wait another week until you will hear the latest news from the "training table" again. Look out for the South African one, Dom, who seems to love the snow...and can't get enough of it. Crazy Africans.

GO UTES!

Gritty
