Nov. 8, 2006

SALT LAKE CITY - The 2006 NCAA runner-up Utah gymnastics team has received written commitments from Jacquelyn (Jacq) Johnson of West Chester, Ohio, and Kyndal Robarts of San Marcos, Texas.

Johnson, now in her second year on the USA National Team, was an alternate on the 2006 USA World Championships team. She placed third in the all-around preliminaries at the 2006 American Cup. Johnson placed second in the all-around at the 2004 Junior Olympic Championships. She attends Lakota West High School and trains at Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy, where she is coached by Mary Lee Tracy and Amy West.

Jacquelyn Johnson is a USA National Team member.

Robarts is in her second year on the U.S. Junior Olympic National Team. At the 2006 Junior Olympic Championships, she won the floor exercise and placed second in the all-around and third on the beam. At the 2005 J.O. Championships, she placed second in the all-around and on the floor, and was fourth on bars and beam. A 2003-04 Junior International Elite, Robarts trains at USA Aerial Athletics under coach Heather Schnelzer. She attends Hays High School.

"Jacq was one of the most highly-recruited gymnasts in the country this year," says Utah Head Coach Greg Marsden. "She has always been a strong competitor and burst onto the international scene about a year ago at the American Cup. She has great skills on every event and the type of competitive experience that will help us continue to compete for championships. Kyndal was also heavily recruited by most of the top collegiate programs. She has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success at the Junior Olympic level and always competes well in the big meets. She will step in and help us immediately on every event."

Kyndal Robarts is a Junior Olympic champion.

Utah has won a record 10 national championships and is the only program in the nation to qualify for all 25 NCAA Championships. One of the highest-drawing women's sports of all-time, the Utah gymnastics team has averaged over 10,600 spectators per home meet since 1992.
