Ute All-American competing all-around for Germany.

University of Utah All-America gymnast Daria Bijak is preparing to represent her home country of Germany in the Olympic Games in Beijing. Germany's preliminary competition is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 10 from 5:00 a.m.-6:28 a.m. Eastern Time. Should Germany advance to the team finals, it would compete on Tuesday, Aug. 12 from 10:15 p.m.-12:19 a.m. (Wednesday). Bijak has been training overseas since qualifying for the German Olympic team in May. She was recently selected to compete as an all-arounder in the Olympic Games. The Cologne native was the German national all-around champion in 2005 and 2006 before coming to Utah.
In two years as Ute, Bijak has won three All-America awards, including first-team honors on the uneven bars as a freshman in 2007. She was a second-team All-American in the all-around and on the floor exercise in 2008. Bijak helped Utah to NCAA runner-up finishes in both her freshman and sophomore seasons.
Following the Olympic Games, she will fly from Beijing to Salt Lake City on August 22 and plans to join her Ute teammates at the annual Fan Fest on Aug. 23 in Rice-Eccles Stadium from 10 a.m-1 p.m.
