SALT LAKE CITY -
After our last home meet, the Red Rocks are 5-0 and going strong! The meet against the University of Iowa was great. We had our highest team score yet and there was a great turnout for the meet. Not only did we have great performances from the lineup, but our exhibition routines were just as good.
I can't begin to tell you how much fun home meets are for us (and for Swoop, sporting his silver warmup this time)! With this year's addition of the MUSS (Mighty Utah Student Section) fan club, each home meet gets better and better. We love competing for the home crowd, especially the students. The only problem encountered during the meet was Gritty pulling a muscle in her back and not being able to compete floor as planned. We all hope to have her back soon!
We are away this weekend, headed to Mel's home state of Michigan. And even though we aren't at home, a lot of Utah family is expected to be in attendance. In addition to Melissa's family, Natalie and Nicolle's family are going to be yelling from the stands. I think we all know how anxious Queenie is after hearing the daily countdown of days remaining until her reunion. I think I also heard rumors of birthday and Valentine presents too, but I can't imagine that has anything to do with her excitement, do you?
Saturday's meet will be a good challenge for the team as both teams are coming off big wins at home. The Utes have not yet won in Michigan, and the Wolverines won last season's dual in Salt Lake City, so of course we'd like to return the favor.
For the past few weeks we've all been working hard in the gym on upgrading routines where we can and getting them ready to compete. We just may have a few new tricks to show off this Valentine's Day. Ah, Valentine's Day-sounds like a great time to be sporting Utah red doesn't it? Let's just hope that a few of our girls don't miss their boyfriends too much...
Don't forget you can follow the "Red Rocks" during the meet with our live Internet scoring, which includes Liz Abel's (the best SID in America) commentary. And mark those calendars, because the team will be back home to compete two weeks from this Friday against Utah State!
I'd also like to say congratulations to our buds, and you know who you are, on the Ute men's basketball team, who just came off two great wins on Saturday and Monday.
