April 27, 2007
Jon M. Huntsman Center - Salt Lake City, Utah
Utah Notes
Utah's Ashley Postell won her first individual national title, winning Saturday's beam competition. This is Utah's first beam national title since Theresa Kulikowski won the event in 2001.
Utah had individual finishers in first, second, third and fourth place on Saturday night. Postell (1st, beam), Annie DiLuzio (2nd, vault), Postell (3rd, floor) and Kristina Baskett (4th, bars).
Postell also finished second in the all-around (on Thursday) for the second consecutive season.
This is the second consecutive year that Utah has had at least one national champion. Baskett was co-champion on bars in 2006.
Georgia Notes
Courtney Kupets added another national title to her resume Saturday night. She notched a 9.9188 for her vault average to win the crown for that event as well as the all-around she won on Thursday.
Kupets passed former Gym Dog Hope Spivey as the Georgia gymnast with the most NCAA individual titles. She also moved into a tie for second place all-time with the most individual titles in a career for any gymnast.
At the conclusion of this year, nine Gym Dogs now have All-America honors on their resume. Courtney Kupets leads with 10, followed by Katie Heenan (nine), Tiffany Tolnay (eight), Kelsey Ericksen (eight), Ashley Kupets (5) and Nikki Childs (4). Also earning All-America awards for the first time in their careers in 2007 were Grace Taylor with two and Megan Dowlen and Marcia Newby with one each.
