The Tipoff
The University of Utah women's basketball team (10-3 overall), which is receiving votes in both polls, returns to the Huntsman hardwood to host Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan this Saturday. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. The Utes are putting their five-game winning streak on the line. They haven't lost since the 62-45 setback at USC back on Dec. 3. In the Utes' last outing on Dec. 29, they dismantled Long Beach State, 74-46. Eastern Michigan University comes to town with a 6-5 overall record. The Eagles have won two of their last three games, including a 79-77 double-overtime win at Duquesne back on Dec. 28.

Scouting the Opponent
Eastern Michigan University owns a 6-5 mark on the season thus far. It opened the season 4-0, but followed that up with four straight losses. The four-game skid came to an end as EMU has won two of its last three games. Last time out, it topped Duquesne, 79-77, in a double-overtime thriller. The Eagles are led by a pair of double-digit scorers. Alyssa Pittman is tops with 17.1 points per game while Canea Williams is second with 11.2 points. Kelly Watts is their top rebounder (6.0 per game). Utah and EMU have faced one common opponent in Weber State. EMU fell to the Wildcats, 61-49. AnneMarie Gilbert is in her first year at EMU.
A Brief Look at the Series
These two teams have only met once in their respective histories. Utah won that sole meeting, 72-67, back on Dec. 21, 2005 in Ypsilanti, Mich. Utah is 3-2 all-time against current Mid-American Conference members. One of those wins came this season when the Utes topped Akron, 71-60, at the Oahu Classic back in November.
