SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team plays its second-straight in-state rival, facing Utah State on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 7:00 p.m. MT in the Huntsman Center.
Utah (5-0) has been one of the top teams in the Pac-12 defensively, leading the conference in scoring defense (52.6), field goal percentage defense (.328) and defensive rebounds (31.0). The Utes received one vote in the latest Associated Press poll.
Utah is coming off a 73-47 win over Weber State.
Utah State is 2-3 on the season. After dropping their first three games of the year, the Aggies defeated Prairie View A&M and Alaska Anchorage to win the Great Alaska Shootout. Devyn Christensen is averaging 25 points per game to lead USU.
Utah is 29-1 all-time against Utah State. Last year the two teams did not meet in the regular season, but the Utes hosted the Aggies in the first round of the WNIT. Utah won 69-58, led by Taryn Wicijowski's double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. The only Utah loss in the series came in 2009.
"Utah State does a very good job of pushing the tempo, and putting pressure on you at their offensive end of the floor," Utah head coach Anthony Levrets said. "They play a very unique defense that you don't see very often so it will test us as both ends of the floor. They have a new staff, but they have very good players. They are learning a completely different system offensively, moving away from the Princeton-style to more of a dribble drive motion offense. Over the last few games they have played really well, and it's going to be a big challenge for us."
