SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team has been picked to finish sixth in the Pac-12 Preseason Women's Basketball media poll, announced today by the league. The Utes were also picked to finish sixth in the coaches poll, which was released last month.
The media were in agreement with the Pac-12 coaches in selecting the top half of the preseason poll. After making four-consecutive trips to the NCAA Final Four, Stanford received every first-place vote to place first in the polling. USC, who advanced to the championship game of the WNIT last year, was second on every ballot. California (107 points), UCLA (96) and Arizona State (79) rounded out the top five, followed by the Utes with 73 points.
Media members also selected a five-player Preseason All-Pac-12 team. Earning preseason all-conference nods were Stanford forwards Nnemkadi Ogwumike and Chiney Ogwumike (Cypress, Texas), USC guards Ashley Corral (Vancouver, Wash.) and Briana Gilbreath (Katy, Texas), and Arizona's Davellyn Whyte (Phoenix, Ariz.).
Utah opens its regular season on Nov. 13 against Southern Utah at 3:00 p.m. MT. Season tickets are on sale through www.UtahTickets.com and 1-801-581-UTIX (8849).
