SALT LAKE CITY -- University of Utah women's basketball standout Kim Smith can add one more piece of history to her resume. Smith was named a Third-Team All-American by the Associated Press Tuesday, becoming the first Ute to be listed higher than honorable mention by the AP.

The AP All-America teams have just five members on each of the first, second and third teams, meaning Smith is regarded by the AP voters as one of the top 15 players in the nation. Smith was an honorable mention choice last season.

Smith finished her career as just the second NCAA Division I women's basketball player to earn her conference's player of the year award four times. She's the first to do so since 1986. Smith is also the Mountain West Conference and Utah career leader in scoring, finishing her career with 2,281 points.

Smith also tallied 1,015 rebounds in her Utah career, making her just the second Ute ever to compile more than 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. She is the first Mountain West player ever to hit the 2,000/1,000 marks.

Smith's 655 points this season are also single-season Mountain West and Utah records.

Shona Thorburn was named Honorable Mention All-America by the AP Tuesday.

In addition to Smith's All-America accolades, Ute teammate Shona Thorburn was also honored. Thorburn was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the wire service. This is the first time Thorburn has been recognized by the Associated Press.

Thorburn finished her career as the all-time leader in assists in both Mountain West Conference and Utah history. She tallied 689 helpers over her four years with the Utes. Thorburn also finished this season ranked No. 2 in the nation in assists, averaging 7.1 per game.

Thorburn's total of 242 assists this season are new University of Utah and MWC records as well.
