The University of Utah women's basketball team will open play at the X-Box Live Mountain West Conference Tournament Wednesday at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo.
The Utes are coming off a 69-67, overtime victory at Wyoming on Saturday. Shona Thorburn hit a runner in the lane with less than five seconds left to take the win. Utah clinched the No. 2 seed in the tournament with that victory over the Cowgirls.
Meanwhile, Air Force enters the tournament as the No. 7 seed after defeating Colorado State 79-65 Saturday afternoon. The Falcons got 17 points from Letricia Castillo, 13 from Pamela Findlay and 10 from Lauren Henderson in the victory. For the season, Alecia Steele is Air Force's leading scorer, averaging 10.1 points per game.
Utah has never lost to Air Force in women's basketball. The Utes hold a 22-0 advantage in the all-time series with the Falcons.
The Utes swept the season series with Air Force, taking a 90-45 win in Salt Lake City and a 79-53 victory in Colorado Springs.
