Utes Host Aztecs Saturday Afternoon
After back-to-back games and wins against teams in first and second place in the Mountain West Conference, the University of Utah women's basketball team will face the team at the bottom of the league standings Saturday.
The Utes will host San Diego State in a 3 p.m. matinee at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Utah is currently 16-5 overall and 7-3 in MWC action. San Diego State is 3-17 and 0-10 in league play.
The Utes have won three straight and seven of their last eight, including wins over nationally-ranked New Mexico and BYU in its last two outings. The Aztecs are coming off a 74-45 road loss at the Air Force Academy Wednesday night.
San Diego State is led by Michelle Strawberry, who averages 13.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Both of those marks are tops on the team. Strawberry is the only Aztec to average double-figure scoring. Veronica Shaw is close, however, tallying 9.7 points per contest.
SDSU is coached by Beth Burns, who is in the first year of her second stint with the Aztecs. This is her ninth season as head coach at SDSU.

The last San Diego State victory in the series came on March 8, 1997 in the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas.
San Diego State hasn't won a game at the Huntsman Center since Jan. 12, 1995, when the Aztecs won a 71-55 decision.
Utah hit seven three-pointers in Wednesday's win over BYU. The Utes average 7.14 triples per game, tops in the Mountain West Conference.
