The Tipoff
The No. 20/23-ranked University of Utah women's basketball team (19-3 overall, 8-0 Mountain West) begins the second round of league play when it hosts Air Force on Saturday. Tipoff in the Huntsman Center is set for 3 p.m. The Utes have rattled of 14 straight wins, which ranks tied for second in the country. Utah hasn't lost since a 62-45 road setback to USC way back on Dec. 3. Last time out, the Utes quieted the Rebels 82-53. The Falcons are 7-13 overall, 1-7 in league play. They fell to San Diego State, 62-45, in their last outing on Wednesday night.

Saturday's game is "Think Pink" day, a nation-wide promotion to help raise awareness of breast cancer. Anyone wearing pink will be admitted for free, and the first 500 through the door will receive pink silicone wristbands. The American Cancer Society will be present at the game, handing out informational material and accepting donations.

Scouting the Opponent
Air Force comes to Salt Lake City with a 7-13 overall mark and a 1-7 MWC tally. AFA's lone MWC victory was a 56-43 road triumph at Colorado State on Jan. 23. The Falcons have dropped each of their last three tilts since then. Last time out, the Falcons lost at San Diego State, 62-45. On the year, it is led by Alecia Steele and her 13.6 points per game. Pamela Findlay, among the top three-point shooters in the conference, is second in scoring with 12.0 points. Steele is the team's top rebounder (7.8 per game). Ardie McInelly is in her seventh season on the bench at AFA. She is 47-143 as the Falcons' mentor.

A Brief Look at the Series
Saturday will be the 25th meeting between Utah and Air Force on the women's hardwood, and the series dates back to their first meeting in January, 1998. The Utes are a perfect 24-0 in all of the previous meetings. These two teams last locked horns on Jan. 9 to open league play. Utah escaped Colorado Springs, Colo., with a 60-50 win over the Falcons. The Utes swept the season series last year. That included an 80-59 victory when they last met in Salt Lake City in January, 2007. Saturday's contest is the 11th meeting in Salt Lake City. Utah has won all 10 meetings on its home floor. Utah is 99-25 all-time in the Mountain West Conference, making it the all-time winningest team in the league.
