MANHATTAN, Kan.- Alli Bills posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists to lead Utah to a 68-57 win over Kansas State and set the Utah all-time assist record.
Utah claimed the championship of Kansas State's Commerce Bank Wildcat Classic with the win. Julie Krommenhoek, who was named tournament MVP, scored a game-high 16 points. Bills joined her as a member of the all-tournament team.
Angie Thill also had 16 points and six boards for the Utes. Kristi Rose scored 14, with seven rebounds and four blocked shots.
Utah shot a modest 51 percent for the game, including 8 of 17 three-pointers.
Although the game was tied at half at 31-31, Utah took control early in the second half, scoring the first nine points to take a 40-31 lead. They never looked back in posting an impressive victory over the Wildcats, which fall to 5-2.
"Our inside players really established themselves and really gave us a presence inside in the second half," said Ute head coach Elaine Elliot.
"I didn't even know that I was close to breaking the record," said Bills, who now has 445 career assists in 71 games.
Utah, now 5-0, plays Idaho State on Tuesday.
