LAS VEGAS (AP) - Kari Gallup scored 30 points as Brigham Young beat No. 18 Utah 66-58 Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the Western Athletic Conference women's tournament.
BYU took its biggest lead at 46-35 with 14:54 left, but Utah went on a 15-7 run over 8:11 to cut the deficit to three points with 6:43. The Cougars outscored Utah 13-8 the rest of the way, making nine of 12 free throws.
Trailing 23-20, BYU went on a 13-2 run over 5:33 to lead 33-25 with 2:50 left in the first half. Gallup's 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range and 16 first-half points led BYU to a 37-29 lead at halftime.
The win was the second for BYU (15-13) over Utah (21-5) in three meetings this season.
BYU got eight rebounds from Lori Henry. Gallup was the only Cougar to score in double figures.
Utah was led by Alli Bill's 20 points.
Utah was one of just two WAC teams ranked nationally, and both lost in the conference tournament on Wednesday, with No. 19 Hawaii losing 79-65 to New Mexico.
